A lightweight, well designed and manufactured quilt with top notch materials.
4 nights in the Waratah quilt around the highland lakes of Tasmania and I'm pleased my new Neve Gear Waratah Quilt. The material is silky soft and smooth. The down lofts really well. The straps, though a bit of a mind bender at first, are cleverly designed and effective at minimising draughts. The draught collar works wonderfully too.
The coldest night was ~-2/3°C and I was toasty in my -12 bag in thermals, time will tell if the -12°C rating is accurate and honestly I don't know if I want to test it but I am confident I will be comfortable in all but the most extreme conditions.
Highly recommended.

Everything about the Feathertail Quilt feels quality. That feeling of satisfaction you get after using a new purchase and being 100% sure you made the right choice isn't as frequent as it should be. I can't recommend this quilt enough.
I have the -6c version and recently had it out in temps down to -10c and it performed incredibly well, the mat attachment system is fantastic.
The Neve Gear team are great, and offer the option to over fill/customize their product, plus it is nice to be able to support a quality local product. I talk through the feathertail as part of a new sleep system I'm using on my youtube channel free to watch if that is of interest.

I wish I had stumbled upon Neve gear earlier, after putting up with the inferior pad attachment system of the Sea to Summit quilts for 5 years.
I opted for the sewn-in-footbox Feathertail over the openable Waratah - even though I'm a very warm sleeper. I wanted to try a new technique for temperature regulation: I think with the pad attachment system and how it keeps the quilt properly stuck to the mat, it's actually quite easy to just pull your legs up towards your belly, and slide them out the bottom when you get too hot. Then you can keep your legs under the bottom of the bag for a small amount of warmth, or have them both coming out either side for ultimate cooling.
Then just slip them in again when you get too cold. I can do this half asleep, and sleep is already compromised enough when you're out hiking and sleeping on an air/self-inflating mat - so any help counts!
This is opposed to waking up and sitting up to zip up the footbox and cinch in the drawcord - which is what I had to do on my sea to summit ember 2 and a similar thing on every sleeping bag I have owned wrangling the foot zip from under the side zip when you're half asleep.
Aside from this, I love the outer and inner fabric - it feels comfortable against the skin and lets air out quickly when you are packing it away.
Contrary to other reviewer's experiences, I have not noticed a strong smell emanating from the quilt/its contents.
10/10 would buy again.

This is my second quilt from Neve Gear. We got my partner a Waratah which she has been happy with.
As the majority of my hiking is in Tasmania, I opted for the Feathertail and its sewn footbox, knowing I wouldn’t have the need to open the footbox very often. I have used the quilt a few times now. Previously I owned an Enlightened Equipment (EE) Enigma quilt so have a few comparisons to make.
Pros
-The strap system is far superior to EE. The buckles themselves do not twist unlike the Enigma.
-The positions of the buckles on the quilt further around means it’s much easier to get a better wrap of the quilt under you to reduce draughts.
- It is easier to adjust the position of the buckles in or out.
-The neck baffle is larger and uses a more comfortable flatter cord.
-The design structure of the baffles means less migration of the down around the quilt.
-The amount of down is more for the equivalent rated bag.
Cons
- The shell material while nice isn’t quite as silky as what EE uses. It also has a very slightly crinklier sound.
-There is a slight odour from the down used. This has mostly gone and I don’t notice it very often but is still slightly present.
Ryan was excellent with getting back to me with my questions and shipping was prompt. Adding additional 50g overfill was easy to select and has boosted the bag to be closer to -8, so should see me through most Tassie conditions.
Buying from Neve Gear you are getting a very well made Aussie quilt that is well priced and has several advantages over one of its competitors mentioned above.
I can definitely recommend this quilt and Neve Gear as a company and look forward to future products and advancements.

Love this quilt. Quality is amazing and I can't get over how light and warm it is.

Car camping down in Bungonia National park at -3 degrees overnight was toasty! Thanks to Neve gear. Highly recommend

I bought the -12 degrees celcius (comfort level) quilt as I need a subzero quilt for winter - here in Australia. I wanted a closed foot box quilt and one with no zipper. I was super happy to just happen on the Neve Gear website after googling and googling “quilts”. I reached out to Ryan to clarify a few questions I had and he promptly replied to my email with the answers I needed. The quilt arrived in just a few days from ordering. The loft is incredible - it should be nice and warm. The feel of the quilt is silky smooth - it should be really comfortable. The quality of the construction is top notch. I will be out on a hike next week and I can’t wait to use it. I have lots of hiking gear from many manufacturers. However, given the quality of this quilt and the service from Ryan, I can highly recommend buying from Neve Gear. It’s also great to support an Aussie business!

I have only used this quilt for one night so far and therefore my views on its performance must be tempered. The quality is very good as was the service from Ryan who helped me make a decision. My preference for quilts is for a sewn in foot box and being a bigger bloke I wanted a wide quilt with a simple strap system (my other quilt has a convoluted bungee cord which is hard to use). In this regard, the feathertail was the perfect choice. I chose the -8 degree and I would be interested to know how manufacturers come up with a comfort rating as it's a very subjective topic. I would consider myself a warm sleeper - usually only wearing a T shirt and undies to bed year round however I did not feel overly warm in this quilt even with trackies, a polar fleece and beanie on. The temperature on the night I tried it got down to about 1 degree with no wind at all and I paired the quilt with a brand new Nemo Tensor which has an R value of 4.2. Whilst I wasn't cold, I wasn't particularly warm either which makes me wonder how I will fare with this quilt in sub zero temperatures. As I say, it's only been one night so it would not be fair of me to pass judgement without further testing. Hopefully I will be able to provide a more comprehensive review in the future. All in all, it is a beautifully made quilt and it is great to be able to support a local Aussie cottage business.
